This print depicts my painting “Guanyin.” Guanyin, the Boddhisatva of mercy and compassion, is believed to have the power to hear all cries for help and mercy. In hearing them, she can assuage peoples’ pains. In that regard, her name translates (roughly) to “Queen of Sorrows.” I think of her listening to everyone and telling people not to worry, that things will be alright. Guanyin in this image appears weathered and aged, but still strong and tall-backed. This demonstrates that although she has seen significant hardship through her long life, she is still resilient. This is a lesson for us all.
