"Kite Festival, 2011." This image depicts three kites flying over the National Mall in Washington, DC. I had experienced a breakup and was in a sad state, but appreciated how the kites fly freely.
"Russian Bear Attacking the People of Ukraine." Painted after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this image is a reaction to the February, 2022 invasion of the independent country Ukraine. Acrylic on canvas, 18x24"
"The Moment." August 2024. A marker sketch. Illustrating the Statue of Liberty self-immolating in an act of desperate protest. The image evokes Thích Quảng Đức, who set himself on fire in 1963 to protest the treatment of Buddhists by the Vietnamese government.
"The Moment." After creating the initial furious marker sketch, I created this image. The refined painting further highlights Liberty's peaceful resignation and strength. Her posture is strong and upright as she calls for desperate actions to preserve democracy. Acrylic on canvas, 2024.
"Fanaticism and Ignorance" Drawn after the 2024 Presidential election. The title comes from searing remarks by Clarence Darrow, who in 1925, defended John T. Scopes in the State of Tennessee v. Scopes trial. Scopes, a teacher, was put on trial for teaching evolution. In his remarks, Darrow said that to require teachers conform to religious beliefs would lead to the ultimate collapse of civil society.
"Memento Mori I." This image depicts a man, woman, and child, each with a certain amount of time left. Their faces have been replaced by timers. Acrylic on canvas.

"Memento Mori III: Samsara." This image depicts life as a cycle. Birth and death feed one another. Acrylic on canvas.
"Confident nude." It is what it says on the tin. When I don't paint, I draw.
"breasts" When my mind wanders, I often turn to the female form. I had recently purchased some new markers and wanted to see how they work.
"Guanyin." Marker on paper. The nude Guanyin sits, illuminated by her perch - the moon- looking down on the earth and hearing all its peoples' sorrows. Drawn after the 2024 Presidential election.
"Athena." A marker sketch which shows Athena, goddess of both war and wisdom, reading Clausewitz in the company of her owl.
"Machines that kill fascism I: Love." Love for each other is an essential element in efforts to destroy fascist oppression. This is the first of a series of three paintings I created to illustrate core aspects of any resistance against fascism. The three key elements I identified are love, free thought, and compassion. Acrylic on canvas, 24x36, 2018.
"Machines that kill fascism II: Thought." The figure's brain appears to be bent over in a Child's Pose, or contorted in some kind of pain. This image illustrates the importance of free thought to efforts to destroy fascist oppression. Acrylic on canvas, 2018.
"Machines that kill fascism III: The outstretched hand." This image depicts an abstracted female figure, blurry except for her hand, reaching forward to the viewer. Acrylic on canvas, 2018.
"Bathers, Keane Valley, New York." Inspired by summers spent in upstate New York with a lover of mine, this image depicts two women gazing lovingly at one another while enjoying the cold waters of a rocky stream in Keane Valley, New York. Acrylic on canvas, 2022.
"Boudica, wearing the skin of a man as a trophy." This image depicts a naked woman, sitting proudly, wearing the skin of a man killed in combat. She looks confrontationally at the viewer, daring her to question her power. Acrylic on canvas, 2020.
"Grief." This abstract image depicts roiling strokes of blue, white, and green cut through with sharp black lines from which emit bright red. Read from left to right, this image depicts the process of grief - first, dark, chaotic, and angry, and eventually, mostly peaceful. Acrylic on canvas, 2019.
"Dupont Circle Lamp Post." This image depicts, somewhat roughly, a corner lamp post and gingko tree near my first apartment in DC. Acrylic on canvas, 2015.
